The woman everyone is talking about is the new anchor for CNN Headline News -- Andrea Thompson. This former actor-turned-news anchor has everyone tuning in to see if she can make a smooth transition while "stepping down" to anchor a news show. Sure, the show in on CNN, one of the more prestigious news stations, but it's also no NYPD Blue, the Emmy-nominated show -- and accompanying huge salary -- Thompson turned her back on. Well, it looks like she's serious in her new endeavor. She began at a network syndicate in New Mexico, where she luckily stumbled upon a freaky story that made national news -- a three-year-old girl who was approximately four feet tall but 120 pounds had been taken away from her parents because she had been "abused," a.k.a. not been put on a diet. This right place, right time occurence skyrocketed Thompson from Emmy territory into the Peabody (a long shot at best) arena. However, the media critics have been razzing her efforts as a publicity stunt to bring a younger viewership to the CNN show. Does this mean that she doesn't deserve every bit of her "big break"? Only time will tell. As she stops reading her stories like an actress in a diction class, maybe she'll have a chance to one day fill Barbara Walters' shoes. And, maybe she may not only get that Peabody, but what other anchor do you know who stands a chance at getting an Oscar? (Greg Kinnear notwithstanding.) Go To Page: 1
