Now that Bazaar is getting a new look and feel, why not a fresh-faced, world-famous covergirl? Britney Spears will be the latest muse on this glossy fashion mag, and this may foretell of all the good things to come.
Bazaar has long been the fashion staple for the maven looking for the fashionableness of Vogue mixed with the upper-crust-focused Town and Country. However, since Liz Tilberis relinquished her reins at the periodical when she finally lost the fight against cancer, things have gone downhill. Kate Betts, the apprentice to Vogue's Anna Wintour, took over Bazaar with guns blazing and intentions misplaced. The once fashionable, classic venue turned into a wannabe avante-garde read with semi-known covergirls and stark, unpretty photography.
Now Betts has been replaced by Glenda Bailey, the Hearst golden child with her finger not only on the pulse of the publishing world, but also the marketing universe. For the past few years, she has injected fun, flair and philanthropy into the pages of Marie Claire in the form of guest editors (i.e., Demi Moore, Gwyneth Paltrow) and crazy celebrity stunts (i.e., Brooke Shields building an igloo). And with the very happening Britney Spears as its first covergirl post-Betts, it looks like Bazaar is well on its way to finding its center again, as well as experiencing increased sales due to an outstandingly popular pop singer.
