"Once and Again" Proves Worthy of Singleton's Time

Okay, so I may be in my mid-20s and single, but I'm still a sucker for a good storyline. That's why I'm hooked on Once and Again, an ABC show following the trials and tribulations of two divorcees giving it a go for a second chance at love. All this while toting around the baggage of dependent kids, needy sisters and ever-present exes.

Why do I watch and love this show? Well, I guess it started with Sela Ward, when she played her Emmy-winning part of recovering alcoholic Teddy Reed. Not only was she striking, but she was also what I aspired to be (no, not an alcoholic--a fashion designer).

I suppose what really hooks me is the 'love' part--it doesn't matter if it's the second time around or the first time ... it still feels good to watch. Do men watch this show? Only those who are indebted to their wives for some reason, I presume (a missed Mother's Day here, a sub-standard anniversary there).

All I know is that it's nice to watch a program with no violence (I get that in my law shows) and no flagrant rifts in morality (I get that in my nightly news shows). It's just a nice family, female-centered drama that I like to watch. And luckily, the folks at ABC feel the same way--the faltering, low-rated, highly acclaimed show has been renewed for next season.
