Are you ready to change? How bad will it have to get before you ARE ready? At what point would you admit you are out of control? Have you reached that point recently? How much pain are you willing to endure for the sake of your problem? How much are you prepared to lose in pursuit of your addiction? Are you comfortable with your life as it is, or would you like to see a change? What would you be willing to do to get free? When will enough be enough? After the loss of your job, your marriage, your family, and friends? Are you comfortable with the prospect of a life lived in isolation from others? From your Higher Power?
No matter what, an addiction puts it out of focus. What's the solution? Recovery is contingent upon your daily spiritual condition. We take care of ourselves when we turn our lives and our will over to the care of God as we understand him or her. Start taking care of yourself today. Ask yourself the questions. You alone can do it, but you cannot do it alone! Ask God for help. But don't just pray for a miracle. When your prayers are said, you have to take action. Easy does it, but do it! Remember, "When the spiritual malady is overcome, we straighten out mentally and physically." Those who have walked before us through the disease of addiction know this. They are telling us this for our own good. Believe them. Don't pull out your false sense of happiness or power. Don't be afraid that you might fail. Don't look for a quick fix. Just try giving up for today. Don't worry about tomorrow. You can do something for 12 hours that would appall you if you thought you had to do it forever. You don't have to do it forever. Just for today. Your back is strong, your burden light with the help of the recovery program and your Higher Power.
