So you think you want to run for Public Office?

If you are a woman, you will be asked . ."who will take care of your husband and children?" Are they willing to assume second place for your time and energies? Are they willing to take over part or all of the household duties? What will happen to your job, your career, or your business? Not only time to run . . . because it take an enormous amount of time to run . . . but what if you win?

I personally know of cases where mayors or city commissioners have lost their jobs, because of time away from work; I personally know of Senators, who have owned businesses and watched their businesses go under; and I have seen marriages end in Divorce, because of the time spent away from the family.

Before running for office you must consider if your goals and aspirations are more important than the house you live in. You better be ready to disclose yourself, your financial status and your past life. Friends, will no longer be your friends, many acquaintances will disagree with your opinions and your health must be able to tolerate the stress, the frustrations, the rejections, the continuing pressure, the poor food, the lack of sleep, and the long hours.

You need a sense of humor, patience, sensitivity and endurance, and in the end, your efforts just may be rewarded.

Next week . . .Determining which office to run for!
