I have run across this wonderful booklet for women and it is written by Grace W. Weinstein for the National Association of Life Underwriters. Over the next several articles, I am going to share this important information with you.
* your credit rating and if you have one? * whether you could get a loan if you applied? * how much money you can expect to have when you retire? * whether you have enough life insurance to protect your dependents? * your net worth? * how much money you spend each month? * whether your investments are appropriate in today's economy? If you can answer athe above questions, even with guesstimates, you're one step ahead of may other people. Many women (and men too), even though they may be working outside the home and supporting families, are too busy to pay attention to the financial facts of life. Yet paying attention is essential. In order to do what you want to do in life, to send your children tto college or buy a house or ensure your own comfortable retirement, you must take charge of your finances." "Judging by the statistics, you may well be a single parent, solely responsible for your children's well-being. You may be widowed and alone after many years of marriage. You may be single, well into your twenties or thrities or beyond, as you build your own career. You may be happily married but a breadwinner in your own right, with an income essential to your family." "It's a fact - most women today hold paying jobs. Almost 58% of all married women were in the work force in 1993, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, up from 41% in 1971. Working wives, overall, contribute about one-third of their family's total income. Women today need to be informed about financial matters and need to go beyond the tasks they have always performed - shopping wisely, stretching the household budget, balancing the family checkbook - to undertake the full spectrum of saving, investing, and preparing for the future. Managing money donesn't have to be complicated. If you take in one step at a time, and seek expert advice when necessary, you'll be able to take charge of your affairs. It's particularly important that you take the time to manage your money well, because you, as a woman, have special needs." Next week we will explore a woman's special needs in depth.
