Homeopathy and the Homeopathic Medicine ChestIn the natural course of learning about alternative medicines and pagan healing practices, I have heard many glowing reports of Homeopathy, and in fact have become involved in a deep friendship with a licensed practitioner that we've managed to cultivate in real life as well as online. Somewhat similar in aspects to the Bach Flower Remedies (and there are those who consider the BFR to be an extension of Homeopathy), Homeopathy is a complete medical science, utilizing the natural ingredients of various plants, minerals and substances which would mimic a disease or condition in a healthy person, but treat that same disease in a sick person. There are many different treatments, and what works for one person may not work for another - just as penicillin won't work for some people, but ampicillin will. In short, Homeopathy treats the presenting symptoms in each singular patient whereas Western Medicine treats the disease as a whole, and not the patient. Developed in the early 1700's by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, through trial and error he tested many toxic substances in various dilutions, usually on himself, and recorded his results (known as provings). The homeopathic materia medica is based on Hahnemann's findings. Others continued his research. Homeopathy is a standard practice in many parts of the world, but is a fairly recent arrival to North America. Some US residents may remember a controversial story regarding Homeopathy and Nancy Reagan…I believe this is the first time I'd heard of it. I wish now that I had listened closer to those reports, or had done some more serious research into Homeopathy and Alzheimer's Disease. In doing my research for this article, I contacted my friend, and requested her assistance. She suggested getting a copy of "Homeopathic Medicine Chest" by Ambika Wauters. Naturally I checked the bookstore first. Nothing. I'd all but given up and was going to leave this article as a brief commentary with a short list of remedies when I was searching Crossing Press on an un-related matter. Voila! I put in my request, and here's my thoughts. Title: Homeopathic Medicine Chest Author: Ambika Wauters Publisher: Crossing Press ISBN: 1-58091-055-6 Pages (incl. back matter): 124 Release/Copyright Date: 2000 by Ambika Wauters I'm quite impressed with this little book. It's loaded with not only the information I was looking for, but also a personal style and flair that brings familiarity to the topic. Ms. Wauters obviously not only cares about her craft, but about how she's presenting it to the reader.
