Magickal AromatherapyTake a look around the room, or your whole house. Do you have candles? How many of those candles are scented? Did you purchase them for a particular scent, knowing it would bring you happiness, wealth, luck or healing? What about potpourri? Many people (yes, even pagans and witches) purchase candles without much fore-thought. They simply pick up a scented candle, take a sniff, and if the aroma is pleasant, the color is right, they'll purchase. On the other hand, there are those who will walk into a dollar store or other candle supply outlet, and spend a great deal of time sniffing, thinking, comparing scents to notes - all in the name of magick, and healing. And beyond that, there are those ultra-talented people who actually blend their own scents, colors and waxes for the perfect, magickal combination. The same goes for oils and potpourris as well. You must have realized by now that certain scents will make you feel relaxed, or seem to alleviate symptoms of minor illnesses, or stress. If you're feeling blue, wouldn't you like to go back to a simpler, happier time in your life? Perhaps a childhood afternoon in your grandmother's kitchen, baking banana bread? Believe it or not, there are scented candles out there that smell like fresh baked banana bread! That simple joy can be recovered for a moment by scent triggered memory. The same goes with healing - if you think well, you will become well. So, you ask, what's the difference between aromatherapy, and magickal aromatherapy? One simple step really - the blessing of the candle to purpose, as well as the inclusion of a spell when the candle or scent is burnt, simmered or enjoyed. Below is a list of scents that work wonders in healing, as well as a blessing/spell, and a recipe or two!.
Most Common Magickal Healing Scents:
Lavendar - all purpose oil/scent. Not only does the scent alone relax most people, but the oil is anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. This oil was included in the kits of soldiers during the first World War for that purpose.
