Herbal Recipes

As part of the herbalism area, and coinciding with the recent poll, I have elected to share with you a few recipes straight from my own Book of Shadows. Some are my own, others are written by a notable author.

TEAS

** All measurements are in "pinches" which equal approximately 1/4 teaspoon **

ierne's Earl Grey Tea Soothing, wonderful for migraine

2 parts loose black tea
1 part Wild Bergamot (dried, crushed)
1 part Lavender (dried, crushed)
1/2 part Rosemary (to taste, very little)
Combine in mortar and pestle, grind together gently. Add to one cup of boiling water, and let boil for one minute, or add to tea pot or cup. Sweeten with coarse brown sugar or honey.

ierne's Lemon Chamomile Tea Stress relief

2 parts Chamomile
2 parts Lemon (finely grated dry rind)
1 Whole Rosehip
Blend Chamomile and Lemon with mortar and pestle. Add to boiling water. Toss in Rosehip. Boil for a few minutes, pour into cup and let it settle for five minutes.

Aphrodisia* A passion drink **NOTE** I have included this tea here on request from a reader. This is not a cure for impotence or lack of sexual arousal. This is simply one method of relaxation that may help in the matter.

1 pinch Rosemary
2 pinches Thyme
2 tsp. loose Black Tea
1 pinch Coriander
3 fresh Mint Leaves
5 fresh Rose Petals
5 fresh Lemon Tree leaves
3 pinches Nutmeg
3 pinches Orange Peel
Place all ingredients into teapot. Boil three cups or so of water and add to the pot. Sweeten with honey, if desired. Serve hot.

SACHETS

These are meant to be worn as amulets, or placed into bath water for a good soak.

ierne's Good Health Sachet/Amulet

1 six inch diameter circle of muslin
1 tsp. Spearmint leaves
1 tsp. Peppermint leaves
1 tsp. Wintergreen
1 small Amethyst
1 small Clear Quartz
1 small Hematite
Combine all and tie with a blue ribbon, or sew closed with blue thread. Charge for healing, and wear around neck as an amulet or carry in your pocket/purse. Smell occasionally for a boost of healing energy.

Healing Sachet*

2 parts Cinnamon
2 parts Sandalwood
1 part Rose petals
1 part Cayenne
1 part Ginger
1 part Rue
Mix. Tie up in blue or purple cloth. Anoint sachet with Eucalyptus oil and wear or place near the bed at night.

INCENSE & OILS Many people use scents as healing tools. These can be either incense, aromatherapy oils, or sachets used in pillows and baths. I have listed a few easy to make Incense recipes here, as well as a great recipe for making fragrance/magickal oils without having to purchase the expensive Essential Oils.
