The Cure For Self-Employment Burn-out

May 13, 2001 - © Lea Moore

situtations that arise.

Take the first step by telling them you are going to be leaving on Wednesday night to go out of town and they will be responsible for taking care of things on Thursday and Friday. It may seem like a big step for all of you and some fears, on all parts, will be normal.

Make sure those you are leaving in charge are respected, it will help things to run smoothly in your absence. Make sure they have phone numbers where you can be reached in an emergency. Tell them you will be calling at 4:00 on Friday afternoon to check on them and that you will see them bright and early Monday morning. Give the one in charge a set of keys, and say goodbye.

Then, let go of it until you get home. You have given them all the information they need to contact you in an emergency. You know the number. You can call once or twice while your gone to see how things are going. But dont' make it a habit. You are on vacation to leave the worry behind.

Have fun. Go to the beach. Go dancing. Play with your kids or your grandchildren. Eat a piece of chocolate cake and a corndog. Walk on the boardwalk with you honey. Go horseback riding.

Wear yourself out!

A few days later, on Sunday night. You'll arrive home exhausted. You'll fall into the bed, without a single thought for the office, except what you are going to wear the next morning and you'll wake up sore (from all the exercise), but refreshed.

The office will be waiting for your when you arrive, just as you left it. And you will be in much better spirits. Your employees with like you again and you will be able to get more work done in one day that you've been able to do in three or four, for the past several months.

Unless, of course, there has been some sort of natural disaster or a fire, or someone burglurized the place, or maybe your assistant stole the computer system and all of the phones.

Just kidding.

This time it was a difficult thing for you to do. You called a few more times than you should have. You worried about it a little too much. But you came back to find that your instincts were right and that you hired the right people.

Do you understand,
