However - this is not really a book review it is more an idea that came to me because I read the book!
I am at the moment writing a course designed to be experienced by mum and child together. Or carer and child together (not necessarily the biological mother.) It will be called Action Kids Art Activities and I will certainly let you know when it is published. (Until it is you may take a gander at the topic if you like.)
(I do have as an ambition to write a more formal program later. It will have as its intention the strengthening or renewal of bonds between mother and child after separation (for what ever reason.)Whilst writing the short course and researching ideas and resources I came across the cartooning book. It is a very basic instructional text. I was thrilled as I am at the moment drawing cartoons for publication. I am always looking for new ways to go about it. Engaging in cartooning as an activity really does lift the spirits.
One recovery strategy could be to intentionally lift our spirits above the problems of the day and try to look at situations from a gently humorous position - wonderful things happen. So I am suggesting that we as a group of readers and writers try out this idea. Lets draw humorous recovery cartoons and post them for all to see and be cheered by.
There are quite a few stages involved in cartoon drawing. First the artist needs to think of a topic. Different topics will suite different people. When recovering from alcoholism there can be as many funny situations develop as we care to have a sense of humour about. When we are living with a recovering addict or alcoholic too there can be a whole host of funny situations that arise if we care to cast our mind to them. So I am suggesting choose a situation closest to you and draw it from a humorous perspective! See if you can come up with a funny one liner. Be really, really careful that the spirit of the exercise is gentle humour to assist healing.
I am happy for people in recovery or their loved ones to post cartoons here so long as no one will be offended. Correction - I would be honoured if you would post your cartoons here.
