"Admitted we were powerless over Alcohol and that our lives had become unmanageable."I often wish that the steps didn't specify what we are powerless over. This is because we as human beings are utterly powerless - full stop. You may think you are in control. "I can go and make a cup of coffee," you may say. You can - of course - unless the water has been cut off that day due to road works. "I can plan ahead!" you might chime in, "I can store some water in case of emergencies." This will work unless the local gas works has an explosion that takes you house out altogether. We can "plan the plan but we can't plan the outcome"in all areas of our lives. If 'I' can't admit this there are likely to be problems in my life. One of the symptoms of these problems could well be a "need to feel in control at all times." This seeming 'need' if left unchecked can become compulsiveness coupled with obsession that is fueled by fear. It is this "ungrounded, unfounded fear"that often characterizes the alcoholic. Meditation helps alcoholics struggle with obsessive, compulsive behaviour, needs or desire. The only power 'I' really have in my life is the control 'I' acquire over the way 'I' act and react in stressful and trying situations. Sartre taught us about choice and how it impacts our humanity. "It does not matter what happens to us in our lives it matters how we react to it." The ability 'I' have to acquire control over the way 'I' react to life's situations does indeed allow me some managability. It allows me to experience what is called a sense of personal self-mastery. If 'I' no longer struggle and cling, or if 'I' no longer give off the vibes of an angry or frustrated woman - 'I' draw others to me in a loving way. 'I' do not propel them from me in a cloud of unknowing and fear. 'I' exude confidence and others are drawn to me so that they feel confident too.(This is the Neurolinguistic Plan!) When we drop pathology (eg. Obsessive-compulsions) Osho in Creativity Unleash The Power Within." says we become creative human beings. "Once pathology disappears, everybody becomes a creator. Let it be understood as deeply as possible; only ill people are destructive. The people who are healthy are creative. Creativity is a fragrance of real health. When a person is really healthy or whole, creativity comes naturally to her, the urge to create arises."p1
