May the Spirit Bless You

May She Watch Over You

May She Bring You Peace

Happy Easter to fellow travelers on the road. Have a good break!
Easter can be hard for the alcoholic can't it?
  • Four days out of routine.
  • Bored kids to contend with perhaps
  • Lots and lots of sugar -
    • not only to throw you off balance diet wise
    • but to hype the kids up
    • and the partner - sugar effects us all you know
  • memories stimulated or triggered by
    • past Easter frolicking
    • or tragic accidents brought on by the celebratory season perhaps
    • you could even be missing an old relationship - a casualty of a past alcoholic lifestyle
  • perhaps the relatives have come to stay - and stay - and staaaaaaay?
Let's just say that all celebrations bring with them major disruption to routine. Anything that brings excitement, disruption or the triggering of memories is usually not good for the alcoholic woman. Even excitement itself is not good for the alcoholic (the B.B. specifically states this to be so) This is especially true for those new to recovery.

Strategies that may help you have a peaceful, restful and harmonious Easter.
Plan Ahead.
  • Attempt to foresee any triggers for emotions or cravings.
    • Work around these plans and strategize them back out of your scenario.
    • By that I mean re-evaluate whether that particular risky action is necessary.
      1. Do you to visit the in-laws?
      2. Or - do you have to visit the in-laws now?
      3. Could you plan to ring and then visit at another time?
      4. Would just a phone call and a gift in the mail be sufficient or even be better appreciated?
      5. Be on the lookout for emotional blackmail.
      6. Don't allow yourself to slip into victim mentality.
      7. Self-deception usually precipitates a bust. Check your motives and self-talk
      8. Many times others are not expecting as much from us as we think they are.
      9. Sometimes if we are doing things because we feel guilty or 'think others think' we should be doing them - the other people become just as stressed as we are.
    Take It Easy.
If it feels dangerous re-plan the days and
    Stay Safe
    Self-nurture
    Plan the Diet Carefully.
  • Can you make substitutes for all that sugar and still have a fun festive time without the kids even realising it? Here are some suggestions.
    • Have a natural exotic drink making competition
    • Have a fruit decorating competition.
    • Create the Easter Bilby.
      • hard boiled eggs (sliced) for the eyes,
      • carved celery sticks for the ears
      • Turkish bread cut to shape for the base.
      • You do the rest and send me the jpgs! LOL
    • Make a carrot cake with a sunrise scene painted on top as the family Easter Card!
    • Decorate eggs with paint.
