Campaign to Stop Gender Apartheid

Imagine waking up one fine morning to discover that a bunch of young men with weapons had decided that you must no longer go to work, that you must stay at home all day, even if you are the sole supporter of your family? And that the windows of your house must be painted over so no one can see in, nor you, out. Imagine that these young men with weapons decided too, that your daughters must also stay at home, must not be educated at school or university. Imagine that you would be beaten or shot by such young men if you left your home, alone, to do some shopping. Imagine that you were very sick, but that you were forbidden by the young men with weapons, to be examined by a male doctor, and of course, all the women doctors are no longer allowed to go to work... Imagine that your sons were still sent to school, to be educated by these young men with weapons, to learn from them how to become a new generation of young men with weapons that lock their wives and mothers and sisters away. The women of Afghanistan have lived like this for the last five years. A few of the world's countries supply the young Afghani men with weapons, some big corporations do work for with them, and the biggest of the world powers have done not very much of anything at all. The Afghan women themselves, resist the criminal policies of the Taliban and its so-called 'Department to Propagate Virtue and Eliminate Vice'. The 'Campaign to Stop Gender Apartheid' is a joint project of over 180 human-rights organisations. This initiative urges the United Nations to implement specific policies to help the Afghani women, and it also has a list of different projects that you can get involved with should you like to help.
