Stop The Violence Cycle

Violence is a cycle and it is brought down to the next generation. Unless we get the help we need, it won’t go away. But at the same time, we must recognize those who have survived violence and stopped the cycle in their own lives.

There are a lot of people who have been abused, but don’t abuse others. They were able to move on and have a healthy lifestyle of their own. From this, we must:

Share Your Story: Things happen for a reason. We cannot analyze what happens to us, but learn from it.   We must share our story and make a difference. People enjoy and learn from other people’s experiences.

Chicken Soup for the Soul Books have made millions from other people’s stories because we enjoy reading about Real People. Maya Angelou wrote about her experiences and inspired others, as well as Oprah Winfrey sharing her stories about her weight issues. Iyanla Vanzant wrote about her experiences and inspired others and Sarah Bran Breathnach wrote about her experiences and inspired others with her best selling book, Simple Abundance.

Vote Women Into Office:
As a society, we need to vote women into office. Vote for women in your area to be Mayor, Governor, and District Attorney. The more women we have in the political field, the better our chances will be with changing this epidemic.

In Violence by Intimates: Analysis of Data on Crimes by Current or Former Spouses, Boyfriends, and Girlfriends, U.S. Department of Justice, March, 1998 it states that, “While women are less likely than men to be victims of violent crimes overall, women are 5 to 8 times more likely than men to be victimized by an intimate partner.” It also states that, “Violence by an intimate partner accounts for about 21% of violent crimes experienced by women and about 2% of the violence experienced by men.

Tougher Laws:
The laws within abuse aren’t strong enough. Can you believe that if a man kills his wife he serves only 2-7 years in prison, but if a woman kills her husband she serves 15 years to life. What is wrong with this picture?

Sexual predator Kyle Barniak – a teacher at Kent Place School, Summit, NJ pleaded guilty to sexual assault involving three girls and was sentenced to seven years in prison. Is that enough punishment? Is that enough time? Is that punishment at all? (Good Housekeeping, May 2003)
