The Round Barns of Western Wisconsin

Gen Reko & home barn
and his wife, Flora, raised a big garden. He often helped others, whether it was pulling someone out to the ditch or sending visitors away with something from the garden. He was a faithful member of the Hillsboro Wesleyan Church.

He spent World War I stationed in France, where, as his step-granddaughter, Genevieve Roberts Reko, recalls he drove a motorcycle and hauled the generals and the officers around. "He told us that a couple of times the motorcycle was shot out from under him." He was a member of the Hillsboro VFW where he could always be depended on to put flags on the graves of veterans on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. He was a frequent speaker at veteran's activities. Alga received a plaque from the Hillsboro Community Service Club and the Hillsboro Sentry- Enterprise for his community service.
