I have found a wine from Chile that goes on my list of favorites. I gave it 89 points and I think you will agree it is delicious. At the price of $12.95 I am buying a case.
Reviews: The Merlot has been celebrated worldwide and is written up as one of the " Recommended Wines" in Wine & Spirits magazine, June 1997. The Merlot is listed in the Wine & Spirits magazine as one of the "Value Brands of the Year," described as soft and ripe. Taste: Grown on ancient vines situated on the San Fernando Estate, the Merlot is ruby red with robust aromas of floral and spice. It's a well-balanced, medium-bodied wine containing plum and cherry flavors with very soft tannins. They say that in Chile it is hard to grow a bad grape giving a winemaker an excellent start to produce a premium product. Portal Del Alto has the winemaker: Alejandro Hernandez is the vice president of the "Office International de la Vigne et du Vin." The office is in charge of the orientation of worldwide policies for Viticulture, based in Paris. He is a Professor of Viticulture and Vinification at the University in Chile. Having already owned property in San Juan De Pirque in the Alto Maipo, Alejandro Hernandez bought Portal Del Alto in 1970. Alejandro still works hands-on with the vines and winemaking. Alejandro Hernandez is the co-author of the book The Vines and Wines of Chile published in 1986. He is the author of the book Wine and Vineyards of Chile, which was translated into English and which received the distinguished O.I.V. award in 1993. Get a bottle and enjoy.
