2. Windows NT is considered to be a very ro-bust and stable operating system specially designed for networks. Although it will work well even a stand alone machine, there are limitation of software availability and operating overheads that make it less than ideal for a home user. It's also a grouped effort: developers around the world contribute to Linux by adding new features, and fixing bugs. This is because Linux is open source software. So you not only get access to the compiled programs that you can run on your machine, but also get the original computer code. To develop your own stuff with it. Linux started of as a command based OS, but now has GUI interface and has become a viable option for the home PC user. Most major software companies including Microsoft, Lotus and Corel have already joined the Linux band wagon and have released their flagship software suits for this platform.
