OFFLINE:
When you are not connected to the
Net, and hence not incurring phone charges. Offline browser enable you
to download entire website on your hard disk, so that you can view them
when you are not logged on to the Net. S/W - Webwacker, Teleport etc.
OUTLOOK EXPRESS:
Microsoft's email program. It is
both a part of Internet Explorer and a stand alone program (http://www.microsoft.com/outlook)
ONLINE:
When you are connected to the Internet
and, therefore incurring telephone charges.
ONLINE SERVICES:
An ISP that, in addition to providing
Internet Access provides it's own online content that is only available
to it's members. The Online Service available in UK include AOL, CompuServe,
LineOne and MSN.
[P]
PC:
Personal Computer.
The most popular type of computer.
PERSONAL LOCATION
BAR:
A handy feature
that allows you to store your own bookmarks or favorites for easy single
click access to your chosen Web sites.
PING:
Packet InterNet
Groper. A small program that can send a test message to a server to see
whether or not the server exists.
PLUG-IN:
Software that
enhances the capabilities of your Web Browser to enable it to do things
like play animation's (e.g. Shockwave), video clip and sound (e.g. Real
Player)
POP 3:
Post Office
Protocol 3. This is the protocol used by your email program to retrieve
messages from your ISP's mail server.
