INTELLIGENT
AGENTS:
Enbale you to find information
on the World Wide Web without using search engines. Autonomy's AgentWare
(Windows and Mac) is the most popular.
INTERNET (THE
NET):
The Net is simply lots of computers
connected to each other that can communicate with each other. The computers
range from household PCs that are temporally connected via an Internet
Service Provider (ISP), to the servers that are a permanent part
of the Net. All the information on the Net is sitting on a computer somewhere.
INTERNET EXPLORER:
Microsoft's popular web browser
also known as IE4 and IE5.
INTERNET SERVICE
PROVIDER (ISP):
A company that provides access
to the internet. ISPs have fast, permanent connections to the net
and use fast computers called servers to handle the exchange of data
between you and all the other computers on the Net.
IRC Internet
Relay Chat:
The facility to hold live conversations
with other people on the Internet.
ISDN:
ISDN stands for Integrated Services
Digital Network. This is an alternative way of connecting computers,
which uses digital lines instead of analogue phonelies, if you use ISDN,
data doesn't need to be converted into an analogue signal to be setn. This
means you don't need a modem. You will have an ISDN adaptor instead.

JAVA:
A powerful web page programming language.
JAVA SCRIPT:
A programming language that is fairly easyto use and enables you to relatively
advanced things on web pages - for example, changing the colour of an image
whenever the cursor moves over it.
JPEG Joint
Photographic Experts Group: A file format with a compressed image
which reduces the file size for faster loading of image.
[K]
KEYWORD:
The word, words or phrase you enter
into a search engine to try to find the web site you want.
KILL FILE:
A list of people whose email messages
you automatically delete.
[L]
LINK:
A hot spot on a web page, indicated
by your cursor changing to a finger symbol. A link connects you to
another web page when you click
on it with your mouse. Links can be made from either text or graphics.
LOCATION
BAR:
The white box at the top of your
browser window where your type in the address of a web site.
