Registry Magic For Windows

You can do Magic by changing a few settings in your Windows registry. By editing the registry, you can control Window and use some of its hidden features. Use a utility called Tweak UI. You can download this utility, from the Microsoft website free of cost.

The file will be downloaded in a zip format. After you have finished downloading the file, unzip the file and right click on tweakui.inf and select install.

After installation is complete, a TweakUI icon will appear in the Control Panel. Double-click the icon to load the utility. Windows 98 user will find this utility in the tools > reskit > powertoy folder in Windows 98 CD. The TweakUI dialogbox has 13 tabbed sections, each with different functions of the PC.

Change speed for mouse and menus
You can change the response speed of your mouse using TweakUI. These are advanced settings which you will not find in the Control Panel. By increasing or decreasing the speed in the Menu you can set the speed for drop-out menus to pop up-each time you run your mouse pointer over a command, for instance, the drop-out menus under the Start Menu. You could also set the speed for double-click intervals between clicks. After you have changed the setting, try it on the Test icon button under the Mouse tab and see the difference.

Speed up your Machine
To accelerate your machine, use the General tab to bypass some of the extra effects that occur during Startup. Uncheck the effects boxes that control Beep on errors, Smooth scrolling and Windows animation. After having done this, Windows will not look as fancy as before. But you need not waste time waiting for the computer to load those frills on the screen.

Using general tab, you could also change the location of those folders you  require frequently and put them in a more convenient place. Just select the folder and click 'change location'.

Easy to search
You could select a search engine by typing? and then the keywords in the Internet Explorer address bar from the list. engine. (Internet Explorer 3.0 or higher required)
