Sharing A Internet Connection

unless it is a dedicated system. I would recommend at least 32 megs of RAM under Windows 95 or NT (other OSes may vary).

Where can you get Proxy Server Software?
It is a software solution for implementing a proxy server. Installing a proxy server for a small network doesn't need a dedicated server. All it needs is proxy server software. There are many such softwares available as shareware or even freeware.
These are the most popular proxy softwares on various Windows platforms:
Windows NT:
Microsoft Proxy Server and Netscape Proxy Server
Windows 95/98:
WinGate and WinProxy.

Installation
Installation can be divided into installing a Proxy Server Software and the various client softwares like browsers, FTP clients, etc.
Proxy Server Softwares:
Installation of proxy server softwares vary but setting up most of these softwares take just few minutes to install.
Client Softwares:
Browsers:
LVnet covers setting up of almost all browsers to its proxy. It can be easily adapted for our personal proxy settings.
Telnet:
For telnetting outside the proxy, you first need to telnet to proxy and then telnet from the prompt.
IRC:
It is done through the SOCKS server.
FTP
A Firewall/Proxy enabled chat client like CuteFTP or WS_FTP is needed.
Most other softwares are Firewall/Proxy enabled that permits their use through the proxy. If they are not compatible then generally Proxy Server Softwares have implementations to permit their use.
