It is with great sadness that I write this article. On Monday, March 21st at approximately 1:30 p.m., one of our former writers, Terrie Murray, passed away.
I had the great privilege of working with Terrie for two years. She came to Suite with the topic idea about wanting to share her backyard birdwatching experiences. She joined our Environment community and shared her expertise, knowledge, travels, insight, highs, lows and humor with her readers. She never tired of all the questions I had about "what's that" or "Terrie, there's this black bird in my yard" and she would reply, with unlimited patience, and be able to tell me what I needed to know or send me to a site with pictures. I became very well acquainted with the website, www.enature.com thanks to Terrie! She was a true environmentalist with a continued passion for learning and understanding about the needs of the critters we share this planet with. She was an avid participant in the annual Audubon Society's Birdathon and traveled 1000+ miles in a weekend to count as many birds as possible. Each teams efforts resulted in money earned from sponsors for funding projects. She shared her stories revolving around her own backyard and explained what we could do to help during winter months. How to feed the birds, what to feed, how to protect them from predators, how to identify them by sight or sound. She took something we take for granted and turned it into an adventure. The education I received from Terrie was priceless and thanks to her, I do participate and have had my own backyard registered as a backyard habitat. I once told her that her writing was like an artist's brush. She used the words as her medium and painted the most vivid pictures. Her love of life, her positive attitude, her patience and her ability to turn a bad day into a good one are things I will always remember. She impacted my life in a good way and thanks to her, I have continued with my own education of the critters and birds that visit my yard. I enjoyed all of Terrie's work while she was part of our community and one of my favorite articles, To Everything There is a Season, is here: http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/back... If you haven't read any of her work before, this will give you an insight to this special lady. She will be missed but we are the richer for having part of her here. Go To Page: 1
