Camping With Wildlife

Spring is here and summer is nipping at our heels and that means days of sleeping in and relaxing. Cabin fever has made me a bit delirious I guess. But getting out to the great outdoors can be very relaxing even for just a weekend.

As most of you know, I live in Montana. Let me guess...you think all of us "Montanan's" are Militia Members, Unabombers, Freemen, plain old stupid hicks. Alright, so we have a pretty fair share of all of the above but we've got some pretty cool spots to visit!! I'd like to share some of those "cool" spots should you ever decide to visit Big Sky Country.

We have a few wild neighbors and probably have more of a variety then you'll ever encounter in the United States. Bears are my favorite. Wolves, bison, bighorn sheep, trumpeter swans, elk, moose, coyote, mountain lion, and so many more encompass this great land. You may even catch a glimpse of an eagle soaring high above. And camping among all these critters can be an adventure.

I've written about my experiences along the beautiful Boulder River, South of Big Timber, Montana. For those of you who want to get deep into the forest, this is the place for you. The road is a bit treacherous at times. You'll need to dodge potholes and boulders the size of bread loaves every so often but hey, it's the wilderness and you're looking for peace and quiet from the hustle and bustle of honking horns and bosses breathing down your neck.

On the way to that special quiet place you won't want to miss the spectacular Natural Bridge and Falls. Constrained by a deeply cut chasm during high water, the Boulder River flows over a 100-foot precipice, creating the spectacular Boulder River Falls. The smell of pine surely opens the senses. The rolling pine trees engulf this beautiful place as the sound of rushing water draws nearer.

Trout is the catch of the day should you try your hand at fishing and I suggest you do. Moose, elk, deer, chipmunks, and an occasional bear can be seen from the roadway if not in the campground at times. Don't forget the camera.

There are many trails to test your backpacking skills and the view at the top is something you'll never forget. You'll also find guest ranches throughout the valley that offer hospitality and fun.

Should this cool spot tease your appetite then check out the following links for more information.
