6. Jawbone Canyon, which runs from the Kern River Valley to the western Mojave Desert, CA.; it's a dirt road drive most of the way, from the green near the river into the dusty horse country into the desert. There are fields of blue Miniature Lupine and pink Purple Owl's Clover; there are fields of sky blue Baby Blue Eyes and pure white Popcorn Flower; there are rarities like the threatened Kelso Creek Monkeyflower; there are hillsides of Grape Soda Lupine and coreopsis species; there is the abundance of desert wildflowers, their sweet aromas mingling with the sage and chaparral aromas... ...and maybe I ought to stop there, not for the suspense of it, but because too much silliness is bad for the eyes. We'll do the rest next week... "The Best Wildflower Places - Part One" (c) 2005 Gregg M. Pasterick - All Rights Reserved. All Photographs (c) Gregg M. Pasterick - All Rights Reserved.
