Even in November ...

Seaside Paintbrush
Martin's Paintbrush grows on dry slopes in California's coastal ranges down to Baja, as well as where I found it. It has linear leaves with wavy margins, the sharp-pointed corollas often protrude well above the bracts, and it grows up to about 2' tall. It blooms from mid-spring into the fall.

Sitting here now, a year later, after a months and months of so many lupines and paintbrushes and monkeyflowers, making note of these few species seems a bit pathetic. But last year, before the botanical rainbow of 2003, those few treasures surprised me. I mean, let's face it, paintbrushes and lupine ...? Even in November ...?
