beginning'. BUT, we take into account what they know. Everyone has something to give, no matter their level. That is why we do not adhere to the common year and a day before initiation. Some will be ready much earlier, some later. And someone who has previous knowledge is basically picking up what this new coven does, and being integrated into the groups energy and mind, then initiaton takes place. We never say 'Well, what you did before is wrong, so unlearn everything and we will teach you the 'correct' way'. That is absurd, and I would guard against anyone touting that horn. We offer our 'way' which grows constantly, and those who are called to worship with us do so. Those who are searching for something different we aid and send on their way, doing our best to find someone who practices their way to help them. In our coven, you are tested on your 'knowledge', because we do have certain things required for certain 'levels' (if you are interested http://www.paganvillages.com/OldWays/nol... or http://www.angelfire.com/wv/stormwitch for our trad and coven pages) but there is more that goes into it than that. There are some hard and fast rules, and some things that cannot be judged using a ruler. But life experience is taken into account, as well as other things, especially when deciding about the 'higher' elevations of 2nd and 3rd, and who to bring into the Council of Elders. You are 'tested' so to speak on how you do things. This next moon we are practicing casting the circle. But yes, there is a 'psychic waiting' which every good HP/s can sense in someone. I have seen apprentices that I knew I could not initiate, because they just didn't 'get it'. There was SOMETHING, and not always something tangible, that just wasn't right. I hold the old traditional thinking of who I initiate I am linked to, so I am picky about who I bring in. So in our group, it relies on both. 'Art thou willing to suffer to learn?' is one we use heavily. Not suffer as in can we beat you once a month. But this path requires examination of self, taking personal responsibility, and will cause great change, all of which cause suffering in humans.
