Degrees and Titles in the Craft

Aug 1, 2000 - © Christy Huelsenbeck

met someone, and get to know them a bit. It's almost like calling someone Ms. so and so, and then getting to know their first name. It is often used within our circle, but I do not 'require' it to be used by any of them. They sometimes use it when we have new people attending a circle. I always call someone Lady So and So if that is how they introduce themselves, until they give me leave to do otherwise. It is etiquette I feel. Of course, there are so many Lady this and Lord that's out there, it is hard to know who actually has earned the title and who hasn't . But given time, you see if they have earned it or not.

Abuse of the degree system is rampant, we hear about it all the time. But for those who use it correctly, it can be a very rewarding experience.
