Living Your FaithThe third key is being true to your spirituality. Understand what you're doing, and why. Don't pretend to be something or someone you are not. Don't abuse your spirituality, or use it to minimize others. If you believe that it's wrong to cast love spells, don't allow yourself to be bullied into it by a desperate friend. Don't perpetuate stereotypes. Don't allow people to have an incomplete idea about your path. Being true to your spirituality doesn't mean that you have to be 100% in-your-face out of the broom closet. Nor does it mean you have to go around lecturing people about the green-faced witch hag stereotype at Halloween. It doesn't mean that you should cast circles in the same certain way I do, or that it is never acceptable to use magic for harm. To be true to your spirituality, you have to understand yourself... why you are here, what has brought you to this point, and where you are going. And you have to be true to your ethics as well, since ethics are a keystone to the practice of our spirituality (especially for those of us who work magic). You can think of my concept of "living your faith" as a triangle. The path is an unbroken line. The shape can only stay that way if all three legs are strong and straight. When one of the legs starts to weaken and crumble, you're not living your faith in the best manner possible. Of course, all this assumes that living your faith is an important part of life, and of religious practice. I have always believed it was. How can anyone compartmentalize their religion into one small box in their life, sealed up like Tupperware? How can anyone live like that? Why would you want to bother? Take some time to think about these ideas, and what "living your faith" means to you. Maybe you'll agree with me, and maybe not. But the concepts are worth exploring, don't you think?
