Moving Beyond Wicca 101

Now that you know what you'd like to learn, the next challenge is finding resources, which is sometimes easier said than done. There's a lot of information out there on the various uses of herbs, but not all of them are reputable. I can splash up a website and tell you that belladonna tea is the perfect cure for headaches, but that doesn't make it true (especially since belladonna is a poisonous herb).

The best way to find reputable resources is to talk to Pagans that you trust. If you have a friend who's really into Tarot, ask her to recommend some books. If you want to learn how to heal with herbs, look for local holistic healing centers or alternative health books written by a medical professional. Check community college "continuing education" course catalogs to see if there are any classes offered. My county community college has one-day sessions on Reiki and auras coming up in March for a reasonable fee.

You may want to consider joining a group or finding a teacher to further your "Pagan education". Check out my article on choosing a group or teacher for tips. Working with others is a great way to develop skills. You can get instant feedback on you work, or use others as a sounding board for checking the validity of your research. Plus, you have a pool of knowledge to draw from, especially if the people in your group have different strengths and interests. A member could teach you tarot in return for your knowledge on the properties of stones.

When you've exhausted a topic, go back to your original master list and pick something else, or look for ways to deepen your knowledge of topics and skills you've already worked on. There are always fresh angles to look at things. You may have read tarot cards for others for a decade but never thought to study tarot as a meditation tool, or used tarot for spell work. By branching out into one of these topics, you can apply your tarot experience in a new way. These new insights, in turn, may deepen your understanding of tarot as a divinatory tool.

Beyond "Wicca 101", your options are almost limitless. Have fun exploring!
