Candle Magiccontact deceased loved ones if you associate black with death. Brown: I've never worked with brown candles. I do, however, associate brown with the element Earth, so perhaps if you're working a spell to bolster someone's strength you may wish to use a brown candle. Gold/Silver: I use these colors on my altar as candles for the God and Goddess, so I don't normally use them in spellwork. Gold could be used as a "stronger" form of yellow, and silver could be used as a "stronger" form of white if you like to use these colors. Be aware, though, that these candles are usually just white candles with a metallic coating on the outside. Candles can also be used in conjunction with herbs and essential oils to add extra symbolism to your working. Essential oils, if not incorporated into the candle when made, can be rubbed on the outside before burning. This process is called "dressing" the candle. While the oil is still wet you can roll the candle in dried powdered herbs to give it even more punch, but keep a careful eye on your candle while it's burning to make sure these flammable herbs don't set your altar on fire! Annwn's Cauldron (run by a friend) has an extensive listing of herbs and their magical properties at http://www.annwnscauldron.com/apothecary... Essential oils will have the same properties as their herbal counterparts. Be sure not to use too much oil when dressing your candles... a little will go a LONG way! You may also wish to carve symbols of intent on your candles before dressing them, such as names, pictures, runes, etc. Use the tip of your athame (be careful not to cut yourself!) or a toothpick for carving. Now that you've chosen and prepared your candle, we can talk about the actual spellwork. This is really the simplest part of the whole process! I charge the candle with the intent of my working by raising energy and directing in into the candle. I like to roll the candle around between my palms as I'm meditating on what I wish to accomplish, then I'll raise energy and push it through my hands and into the candle. If the candle is dressed, I'll sit it down on the altar and cup my hands around it to push the energy into the candle. When I light the flame, my energies mingle with the stored energy inherent in the candle
