Misconceptions of Wicca and Witchcraft

impression that Wicca was just a fad hobby of teenage girls, or that it was just a path for women. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Although a lot of new books do seem to be aimed at teens or women, Wiccans are both male and female and come from all races, political ideologies, economic classes, sexual orientations, and educational backgrounds. There is an amazing diversity to be found in Wicca and Paganism, and with it an amazing tolerance for "alternative lifestyles". Wiccans and Pagans tend to judge others on their actions and morals, not on who they sleep with or vote for.

There are always going to be stereotypes, especially for things so very far from "normal". Hopefully I've managed to debunk a few of your major misconceptions about Wicca. If you take away nothing else from this essay, remember that Wiccans and Witches are ordinary folks. We're scientists, lawyers, mechanics, and waitresses. We're on the PTA, we take the kids to soccer, and we shop at the same grocery stores and malls. We're sitting next to you on the bus or the plane, browsing next to you in the bookstores. We're different in many ways, but we're still a part of society.
