Point 7 is another point I have a disagreement with. I don't really believe that working magic within a Wiccan framework is the best or most effective way to do it. I believe it's merely one of several effective ways. Working within a Wiccan framework will give you guidelines for how to work magic, both ethically and ritually, but a spell worked during a full Wiccan ritual may not be any more or less effective than the same spell worked at a kitchen table while the dinner is cooking by a non-Wiccan. I plan to talk more about magic and spell casting in future essays.
Point 8 is, I think, one of the most fundamental things in this list. Wiccans believe that deity is manifest in everything and that we can directly interact with our Gods. All Wiccans are clergy in that sense. I don't need my coven's High Priestess to petition the Gods for me. I can come to them and do it myself, either in ritual space or as part of an informal prayer. And they can come to me as well, and influence me directly. I've always likened it to a friendship. The Gods are always there for you. All you need to do is go knock on their door. Point 9 spawned an essay all of it's own here on Wiccan ethics. If you haven't read it, I encourage you do to do. I won't repeat it all here, except to remind you that the Rede is a guide for our behavior. The Rede isn't law, it isn't a commandment, and it doesn't say that we must never hurt anything. It's merely good advice to live by. And finally, point 10. Wiccans believe that, to paraphrase, what goes around comes around. What you send out, you'll reap. This is also discussed in my Ethics essay. I don't believe in a literal law of multiple return, but I do believe that every action has a reaction. If you send out harm, harm will rebound on you in some way. Perhaps not even literally equally to the harm you send out, but eventually it will catch up to you. Always be sure that you can live with the consequences of what you're doing.
