Shasta Masters and Varese Sarabande Present

Varese Sarabande Presents...

Once upon a time, there was a company that cared. The old classics were passing away, and due to a love of the old, and a desire to bring the worn, static filled recordings back to life, Varese Sarabande was born. Perhaps it was the contacts, perhaps it was the desire of others to see the classics, and some of the forgotten artists restored to new digital life, or perhaps it was just time. Either way, we are the fortunate. In their quest to bring out of obscurity the 'old' men and women of classic music, or perhaps in their thirst for unique recordings that preserved the best of the long past eras, we, are the fortunate. Varese Sarabande has been the recipients of the Gene Autry audio heritage, and have brought us Gene Autry's television recordings, The Cowboy is a Patriot, and Goin ' Back To Texas. Drawing on Gene Autry's personal collection of recordings, they have introduced many old fans to Gene once more. Their mission has not stopped there. They have delved into the worlds of Blues, Children's music, Christmas, Classical, Comedy, Country, Easy Listening, Lounge, Folk, Bluegrass, Jazz, Latin, Shows & Musicals, Vintage, and oldies Vocal. Their soundtracks range from the newest hits, to the classics. Their country division includes The Shasta Masters collection, and features the greatest county stars in all new remastered recordings. Jimmy Wakely originally produced the recordings, and now Linda Lee Wakely has made these available to the listening public. I recently had a chance to listen to five of these and was highly impressed...

The Very Best of Tex Ritter
[tex ritter] Tex Ritter was a legend. From his early education in, and the preservation of, the early western musical traditions, he stood out. His film career was short, but critical to the development of the singing cowboy. It was through Tex Ritter films that the legendary Bob Wills was introduced to Hollywood. Even after his last film, his contributions to the western film genre were strong. His haunting "High Noon" theme song still send shudders down many film goers back.

Apart from Hollywood, his classic "I Dreamed of A Hill Billy Heaven" is as heartfelt and touching as it ever was. "Green Grow the Lilacs", " Son of A Saginaw Fisherman", and "The Gallows Pole" are some of the highlights of this excellent compilation disc. If you are a first time Tex Ritter listener (do they exist?), or a long time fan. This collection will remind you why Woodward Maurice Ritter is enshrined in the hearts of millions around the world.
