Now Playing... The Lone Ranger!

Good Times Video Presents The Lone Ranger

The Lone Ranger has had an amazing career. He has starred in comics, in books, on radio, on television, and on the big screen. We are fortunate that George Trendle, like Gene Autry, had the foresight to preserve the television dramas as well as the movies.

Good Times Video is one of the companies that have come to the table to represent the Masked Man and his companion Tonto to this generation. With both VHS, and DVD issues available, they have marketed the following tapes.

The Lone Ranger Collector 4 pack DVD Series

The Lone Ranger Collector 5 Pack Series

The TV episodes presented are:
Enter the Lone Ranger
The Lone Ranger Fights On
The Lone Ranger's Triumph
The Legion of Old Timers
The Renegades
The Warhorse
Tenderfoot
High Heels
Finders Keepers
The Masked Rider
Pete and Pedro
Old Joe's Sister
Six Gun Legacy
The Return of the Convict
Rustlers' Hideout

The feature length version of the 1938 serial, Hi Yo Silver, is presented in both formats, VHS and DVD. Well reproduced, these edited versions make sense of the twisted serial logic. Missing however, is the twisted serial logic that kept you coming back for more-no matter how silly the escapes may have seemed!
The Lost Episodes, also produced in both formats, is an great addition to any Lone Ranger collection. Rare television spots, an early Lone Ranger cartoon, and many other delights fill out this 98 minute ride down memory lane.
The graphics for the sets are appealing, and taken from the television series. I especially enjoyed the 5 fold Lone Ranger image from the front side of the VHS set!

In addition to these fine videos, family adventures such as "Pit Pony" are also available.
Keep your eyes peeled for these sets at your local video dealer, from amazon, or on eBay. You will not be sorry!

Next article: A series begins on the stars of the early westerns... Look for Buck Jones, Tex Ritter, Gene Autry, The Sons of the Pioneers, and a series on the 1930's. Interviews with Dennis Weaver, Harry Carey, and Gene Colan will also be presented. So, keep on reading. The road is rough.

UPDATE: My book, Wagon Wheels and Western Tales, will be at the printers for around 6 months, then, you can learn a whole lot more about this hobby that engrosses so many!
