The Games People Play

Trivia games abound in the toy universe. First there was "Trivial Pursuit", dreamt up by two buddies in a bar in Winnipeg Canada, and then there was "Genus Edition", "Star Wars Edition", and even "Disney Trivial Pursuit." There are variations on the pursuit of trivia on "Hollywood Squares", in Canada, "Front Page Challenge", and many other games and game shows.

What about western trivia?

When is Bobby Copeland Incorporated going to come up with "Trivial Pursuit, Western Stars Edition?" He, of all the current writers, is uniquely qualified to do so. With his vast storehouse of most things trivial, and western, and the immense support cast that makes up his friends and co-professionals. Why not?

The game pieces could be horses and riders, and the 'colours' you win for correctly answering a question cold be horse shoes. The categories for questions could be Movies, Television, Miscellaneous facts, Horses, and Co-stars. A game card could go like this:

Movies: Which movie starred Bob Hope and Roy Rogers?

Television: Dick Jones played the lead in which television show?

Miscellaneous Facts: Clayton Moore was trained as an aerial acrobat. True or false?

Horses: Zorro rode a magnificent horse named?

Co-Stars: Name Gene Autry's co-star in Melody Ranch.

Answers:

Movies: Son of Paleface

Television: Buffalo Bill Jr

Miscellaneous facts: True

Horses: A black horse called Toronado.

Co-stars: Jimmy Durante.

There could even be cards that had picture cues. For instance, a picture of Dick Foran could be on the back, and you have to identify the cowboy.

Thousands of questions. Thousands of answers. Birth dates, death dates, burial places, first movies, last movies, co-stars, horses, most memorable movies, and so on could be asked. We'd actually have to re-read those books we have on our bookshelves, and maybe for a third time. We'd have to sit down and 'force' ourselves to watch our favourite movies, or more of our favourite movies. The Western Channel would love us, wouldn't they? With such a game, we'd all learn a little more about our heroes, and have a lot of fun in the midst of it.

Authors, long forgotten, would be rediscovered.

Books, long unread, and out of print, would be reprinted.

Movies, archived and dusty, would be re-watched and enjoyed.

It would be a renaissance of the western movie through knowledge.

Could be lots of fun, couldn't it? I get first dibs on copyright. Contact me first, we'll be a team.

And another game concept, why not Western Star Monopoly?

The properties could be:

Republic Studios
Mascot Studios
Universal Studios
Melody Ranch
Pioneertown
Gene Autry Heritage Museum
