Cowboy Christmas IIIt's time again for a Cowboy Christmas, and my annual listing of some favourite things a western memorabalia lover might appreciate under that Christmas tree. This time around, I will try to add the URL to the bookmark section so you can link from there as well. Here goes... First in our Yuletide treasure hunt, let's go to http://www.royrogers.com and see what goodies they have there for the cowboy collector in your household. If we go to the gift shop, they have lots of goodies. Music, yes. Sons of the Pioneers, Roy Rogers, The Tribute Album (a must have), the Dale Evans Collection, and of course Dusty and the High Riders discs (2) can all be found in these pages. Books, of course, can be purchased aplenty here. Dale's books from "Angel Unaware" to "Rainbow on a Hard Trail", and even Dusty's "Growing up with Roy and Dale" are to be found. For the die hard Roy fan, a must have is the Bob Phillips biography recently re-released by McFarlane Inc. There is of course, "For a Cowboy Has to Sing", and many more for the asking. Trinkets, T-shirts, cups, pictures (both moving and stills), are on this well done site maintained by the Rogers museum. Get 'em while you can, Branson can't be too far away.
A relatively new site dedicated to Rex Allen, is http://www.pinkbanana.com/rex.
Featuring the Rex Allen Museum from Willcox, Arizona it has an impressive list of Rex Allen items, some of which are still autographed by Rex prior to his passing in 1999. It is a small site, but it is the best Rex resource available now, as there is really no Rex biography. Perhaps Rex Jr will produce one. You can find the complete series "Frontier Doctor" from 1959, all of his movies, posters, shirts and like Trigger, you can pose beside a life size statue of Koko.
DVD. That's all I can say. 3 years ago, we asked what they were, today, we all have 1 or at least would like to experience the extra material available on them. Old westerns are to be found here. Many of the Duke's early movies are out now, at Wal-mart I purchased a 3 movie Duke DVD for only $4.96 recently! The Lone Ranger has joined the DVD fray. The 1956 and 1958 movies, the movie serial, and many of the most popular episodes can be purchased this way now. One of the movies has as a bonus a Clayton Moore biography on it. Roy Rogers can be found on DVD as can many of the public domain properties. Just look on Amazon, or at Movies Unlimited for them. You will not be disappointed.
