Guns! Love Them or Hate ThemGuns. You either love them or hate them. For fans of Westerns, they are an essential. As much as the leading lady or man, they help define what we call a Western. Consider the following: Roy Rogers stood at the end of the street. Gus Madcat Wilson yelled at Sheriff Roy. "Coward. Come and get me. Or better yet. I'll get you!" Madcat Wilson charged down the hardpack, Eyes full of hate he narrowed the distance between the lawman and himself. Madcat pulled out his gun and fired a shot at Roy. The bullet pinged beside Roy harmlessly away. He didn't flinch. Madcat fired again. The bullet shot up dust a couple of feet away from Roy's feet. Roy stood calmly, pulled out his pistol., aimed and pulled the trigger. Madcat's weapon flew out of his hand. He stopped charging and turned around. Laughter echoed from the buildings. Madcat stood up and shook his fist in the air. "I'll never forget this Rogers!" He reached for the nearest horse and galloped out of town. Now, lets consider the politically correct version. Madcat stood up and shook his fist in the air. "I'll never forget this Rogers!" He reached for the nearest horse and galloped out of town. Now this is a little far fetched. Clearly, the gun, pistol, rifle or any weapon is part of Westerns. As collectors of Western memorabalia, firearms sometimes fall into our possession. This is the issue. Are toy guns (cap pistols) weapons? Can we consider rifles dangerous if the firing pins are removed? Is the collecting of western performers weaponry a felon? The NFRA and the lobby groups in Canada have had a hard run with this. In Canada, all owners of firearms are required to register their weapons or be considered CRIMINALS! The cost, $10, but upwards of 40% have not registered their weapons. To buy ammunition, you must still be registered. Charlton Heston, the head of the NFRA, and Ted Nugent are ardent supporters of the ability to possess guns. As I said, collectors
