The world of B Western authors is a small place. Bobby Copeland, Boyd Magers, Buck Rainey, David Rothel, Bob Nareau, and Charlie LeSuer have chronicled some of the thrilling years that made up the best of our lives.
Charlie LeSuer is well placed. As part of the Festival of the West, and his life in films, and TV production, his experiences with many of the greatest stars of the past are now put to paper. His two books, "The Legends Live On" and "Riding The Hollywood Trail" are the results of many festivals, interviews, and personal encounters with Lash Larue, Buck Taylor, Johnny Western, Rex Allen, John Smith, Harry Carey Jr, Ken Maynard and others. As a result of his research and proximity to many of the western legends, he has learned the true story of many of the early cowboys (Riding the Hollywood Trail) from those who learned at their feet. As a fan of the genre, these books are interesting, not from just a historical perspective, but also a 'been there, talked to them' fact. They are enjoyable, and a pleasant read. Read 'em all at once, read one chapter at a time, read 'em as you're watching an old Hoppy, Ken Maynard, or Tom Steel western. But read them. I could say much more about these books, but instead, I recommend them with the heartiest Hi-Yo Silver, On Silver, and Yee hah. Priced at $11.95 (and $2.95 s/h), these are easily worth the price.
