May Trail Rides From Dorchester© June Trail Rides From Dorchester
It's western time and the weather is fine, the calves have all been branded....Sorry Roy, but I had to take part of your song for this. The monthly pack of goodies arrived on time, the horse and rider turned back south, and by the time he crossed the fence line, my first book was started.
[ambush for lassiter] Let's start off with the best of the bunch. Loren Zane Grey has continued the Lassiter saga in "Ambush for Lassiter". Based, of course, on the hero from "Riders of the Purple Sage", Loren gives us a novel worthy of his father. What's the greatest motivator for survival? Revenge, of course. Lassiter is framed for a murder he didn't commit and convicted to 25 years hard time. A jail break is attempted, and lands him in solitary instead. Turning to his wits for survival, he finally escapes and rides to find the man who shot his partner in the back. Three and a half bullets! [saga of texas] Will Cook continues his 'Saga of Texas' in "Until Darkness Disappears'. The first two Texas books were fantastic, and now we find ourselves in 1905, in Laredo. Col Jim Gary and Guthrie McCabe have been charged by Roosevelt to stop the Mexican border raids. El Jefe is their target, but his power grows stronger every passing week. The survival of the two men depends on their cunning and wilderness skills, a whole lotta luck, and the co-operation of the locals who don't want the banditos! Pick up the first two books, this is one good series.... Peter Dawson, in this thrilling collection of tales, reminds us why his fiction was so popular for so lone. These stories first appeared in Complete Western Book Magazine and Big Book Western from 1939 and 1940. "Brand of Luck", "Death Brings in the Ophir", and "Forgotten Destiny" (the title tale), have been restored to their original forms. Jonathan Glidden, who wrote as Peter Dawson, was one of the most prolific writers of the period. "Brand of Luck" is written in an unconventional form, with telegraphs changing the direction of the story, and moving the plot forward. Cleverly done, it is very effective. "Forgotten Destiny" finds Tom Boswick in a passel of trouble. His friend, Bill Duncan, is ambushed and used as a pawn by a sheriff to steal Tom's land. Trouble is, Bill has lost his memory! [riders to moon rock] Golden Boot Award winner, Andrew J Fenady, has written a great book in "Riders To Moon Rock". This one reads like a man who knows his way around a western novel! His other work includes Chisum, Hondo, The Rebel and Branded, so this is talent on tap. Plot-wise, "Riders" tells the story of Shannon, a man of two worlds who knows what it means to stand tall. His dreams of being accepted by both worlds, and to realize his ambition thwarted by prejudice, he waited to exact his revenge. Go To Page: 1 2
