"Green Acres That's the Place for Me"
Yep, that's the way many folks started their evening TV viewing in 1966 and 1967. The classic TV show, "Green Acres' starred Eva Gabor (Lisa) and Eddie Albert (Oliver) as Hooterville's respected Douglas family. What happens when a Park Avenue women marries a Hooterville citizen? Sheer mayhem of course, but love conquers all, and in the process destroys a few misconceptions of life in the country too. Of course, family life is not all what it seems to be when Paul Henning is in charge. The creator of The Beverly Hillbillies took a normal situation, and made it anything but, and this two disc set is all about that. What should be, isn't and if it can go wrong, it will! For example, in "His Honor", Oliver is elected judge of Hooterville, and it goes straight to his wig-only to realize he is an apple judge! "A Square is Not Round" revolves around a chicken that lays eyes non-oval, and money soon turns the situation around (a square). The High handed rule gets a workout as water supplies starts to dwindle, and progress is halted. The beloved Pat Buttram starred as Mr Haney to add his unusual talents to the show. As one of the best side kicks in B Western history, his parts always catch my attention. The funny thing about Mr Haney is that you can picture him at his sidekick best uttering "Mr Artery" when he is talking to "Mr Duglass". 30 episodes grace this set, and each has a moment that makes you roar with laughter. But, that's classic comedy from Paul Henning for you! Green Acres is available from your local video store, from the Skull Cave Movie Store, and from MGM direct at www.mgm.com. As I posted this, the talented Mr Albert had passed away. At 98, his career spanned Hollywood from the early 30's to the 80's. Farewell Mr Albert.
