Mr Ed, Out of the Stall and Into DVD

With the vaults of TV-dom opening wide the last couple of years, it was only a matter of time before Mr Ed saw the light of day once more. For those of you who do not remember, Mr Ed was the story of Wilbur, and his talking Steed, Mr Ed. If that seems far fetched to younger viewers, we have to remember Gilligan's Island, My Favorite Martian, I Dream of Jeannie, Bewitched, and numerous other comedies. Who was the voice of Mr Ed? Rex Allen, in an uncredited role of course, just prior to his Disney career voicing the many wild life films. In Volume 2, we are treated to 20 episodes of Alan Young, Connie Hines, Leon Ames, and guest stars Abigail Van Buren, and Mae West. Mr Ed adopts various guises from a mailman, Robin Hood, an artist, pilot, stowaway, chauffeur, and superspy in 'Cold Finger'.















Silly, you bet. But that's what made the series so loveable. The easy relationship between Mr Ed and the often clueless Wilbur left you wondering how they got themselves in those situations, and more importantly, how they were going to get out.

The design of the disc set is unique with a slip jacket that opens to a shot of Wilbur and Mr Ed-and the episode synopsis in the included booklet. That makes the set more useful than a basic listing, and allows the viewers to go quickly to their favorites.

A horse is a horse, of course, of course,
And no one can talk to a horse of course
That is, of course, unless the horse is the famous Mr. Ed.

Go right to the source and ask the horse
He'll give you the answer that you'll endorse.
He's always on a steady course.
Talk to Mr. Ed.

People yakkity yak a streak and waste your time of day
But Mister Ed will never speak unless he has something to say.

A horse is a horse, of course, of course,
And this one'll talk 'til his voice is hoarse.
You never heard of a talking horse?
