March New Releases From Dorchester

My favourite time of the month has come. No, it's not the Archie package, but the monthly installment of Dorchester/Leisure books new releases. It's always a pleasure to read the new batch of talent, and the classic authors come to life once more. This month, the corral has some great tales in it. A couple could be great movies, and a few could be episodes for an anthology series. Too bad Hollywood is not looking at that anymore. Either way, let's go, the coffee is perking, and the fire is roaring.

In "Smoking Guns", Max Brand gives us two tales of James Geraldi, one of his most popular characters. "Geraldi In the Haunted Hills" and "Smoking Guns" are intriguing novellas, straight from the master himself. His books proclaim him 'The Shakespeare of the Western Range', and 'The World's most celebrated western writer', and from this book, they are not far off. In this book, Geraldi tries to live straight, but finds out that his past won't let him, and that the lust for revenge never dies. Three bullets for Smoking Guns.

The Lewis and Clark Expedition is legendary. So, too are their characters. Where there is confusion, writers come into play. Rita Cleary has done that in "Charbonneau's Gold", and explored the lives of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark past the Louisiana Purchase, and into the wild unknown. There they meet Toussaint Charbonneau, a French Canadian trapper who offers to show them the way to the Pacific Ocean. Soon, greed overwhelms good judgment, and the way to the Pacific becomes something quite unexpected.

Rita Cleary, blends history with her story, and the result is an entertaining novel waiting to be read.

"Manhunt" by Tim McGuire captures the flight of a desperate man in a fight for his freedom, no matter what the cost. Clay Cole, aka the Rainmaker, has turned himself in after six years of running. But what he doesn't count on is the escape of a dangerous man from prison and the hostage taken. The sheriff knows Clay is the best man to find him, and in the process Clay pulls in all of his resources to rescue his friend and track a killer. Grand style, great story, Tim McGuire pulls it off and leaves you wanting more.

"The White Feather" by Cliff Farrell is an easy to read, keep them coming collection of three novellas drawn from his extensive catalog of work. Cliff Farrell captures the drive and determination of the true west in "The Brave March West", "No Peace for The Living", and the compelling "Sign of the White Feather". Cowardice turns to bravery, and courage into survival, then devotion to sacrifice in these tales. Grand themes and tight writing from one of the grand masters of the genre.
