April Releases....A Little LateApril Bookshelf March has come and gone, and April has come in like a lion. Snow, rain, sleet, and a whole passel of books have come my way. Leisure Books has given me a great stack, and my new friend and fellow Western Writer of America, Randall Beth Platt has sent some great books my way. Well, as Royal Leckner would say, 'Stop yer jabberin' and git down to brass tacks.' So here I go Royal, 'grab a stool and rest a spell' Dorchester/Leisure Classic Authors Gathering Storm-Lauran Paine: Fresh on the heels of his successful 'Open Range', Dorchester has compiled two powerful Lauran Paine novellettes. 'The Calexico Kid' tells the tale of the mysterious bandito that everyone is trying to bring to justice. Two gunfighters arrive in a peaceful town in 'Gathering Storm', and sets off a chain reaction that changes the area forever. As one of the most prolific western writers of our time, Lauran has written under almost 90 pen names, and his 1000 published works are a testament to his talent. With a Lauran Paine novel, you can't go wrong. Other Wranglers Shadow Valley Rising-Stephen Overholser: In 'Shadow Valley Rising', Stephen Overholser keeps us page turning with a carefully crafted story deep with the determination of Ella Mae Campbell. Captured by Indians, she survived to endure the stigma that followed her. Great drama that captures the depths of a strong will to endure and overcome. Wilderness #42, Flames of Justice-David Thompson: In the latest Wilderness saga, we catch up with Nate King, Shakespeare McNair, Blue Water Woman, Evelyn King, Winona King, and Touch The Cloud as they travel to the trial of Zach King. As you would expect, not all is going to go well. Wild bears, highway men, and a lawyer who keeps his word meet Nate and his party, and defend Zach at his trial. Zach's trial is more than it seems, and Stanley Dagget understands the consequences, and fights with integrity. Hey, I'm not telling you the ending, you have to buy this one!
Royal Feaskos Fellow WWA'er Randall Platt has written a couple of charming, laugh out loud novels. In 'Royal Feasko', Royal Leckner and E M take on a corrupt Hollywood producer and somehow end up meeting Bill Hart, then some big name Hollywood producers, and .... Anyway, if you enjoy Ma and Pa Kettle, The Clampetts, and Bonanza, then you will certainly enjoy this romp through Hollywood of 1915.
