March Western Round Up, Book Style

As usual, the time has come for me to let you know what is new this month to the bookshelves. With Hidalgo in the theatres, it won't be long before 'Home On the Range' is out from Disney, and if all goes well, the Harry Carey Jr movie, 'Commanche Stallion' should be filmed by June or so, and hit the screens near the end of the year.

The Golden Boots are coming up, and my new friend Noel Neill (she calls me Timmy), and Gale Storm are both receiving this year. The event is mid August, and hosted by Ben Cooper this year. Should be a good time, I may even be there. All I have to do.....

So, let's start.

Dorchester/Leisure has their usual four releases this month. Max Brand, Fred Grove, T T Flynn, and S B Lyons give their all in another month shot all to pieces. It's hard to work if you can't put a book down! Western Classic Author

The Outlaw Redeemer-Max Brand: In 'Redeermer', and 'The Last Irving", Max Brand gives us two tales that celebrate the human spirit and desire for justice. Both tales are restored to their original form, lost during the editing process, and give us more reason to call Brand, a grand author.

Ride To Glory-T T Flynn: T T Flynn, author of 'The Man From Laramie', has woven a series of tales worthy of reading more than once. 'Ride To Glory' consists of 'Ghost Guns for Gold', 'Half Interest in Hell', 'The Gun Wolf', and the title piece, 'Ride To Glory'. My favourite story in this collection of pulp tales is 'Ghost Guns For Gold.' The work of T. T. Flynn never fails to entertain, and with this volume of 'lost' tales, we are that much closer to understanding his passion for the western story.

New Cowhands...

The Spring of Valor-Fred Grove: The Civil War forms the backdrop for Fred Grove's newest novel. Set against the dramatic tension that North Vs South, and father vs son could only give, Daniel Wade choses the Union militia, against his fathers' wishes. Returning home after being wounded, he finds his 'home' is no more, and the battle being waged on his turf is close than he would like.

S B Lyon-Bandit Invincible: The legend of Butch Cassidy will never die. Even though his active 'outlaw' life was short lived, tales of his 'adventures' continue to be written. In this well crafted story of Butch Cassidy, Suzanne Lyon explores his early Mormon roots. What turned him into the villain that history has described? What was he really like? Butch and Sundance have inspired authors, movie makers, and historians everywhere to serious and not so serious research. Having been part of 'The Legend of Butch and Sundance' (NBC) promotional splash, I can appreciate her work and enthusiasm for Sundance. Read this book if you are a 'fan' of the man we thought Butch Cassidy was.
