Her career came to a halt in 1959 after the death of George Reeves. Neill retired to California to pursue her other interests, the beach. She found herself back at work as a secretary, then later at UA in the sales department. During this phase of her life, she was rediscovered by her fans and spent 4 years touring colleges and universities.
Superman wasn't done with her yet, and she was cast in the role as the mother of Lois Lane, and Kirk Alyn, at Neill's insistence, was cast as her father. She had become the only woman to act in all 3 mediums of the film Superman, Movie Serials, TV, and the action movie.
Noel Neill, after her success in "Superman, The Movie" (1978), returned to private life to work for Tom Selleck, with whom she still works on a part time basis. She counts Jack Larson as a life long friend, and from her recent appearance at movie festivals, has a fondness for her fans. All told, Noel Neill acted in 89 films, 78 episodes of Superman, and has created a standard for young (now old) movie fans.
