Speculation, rumours and innuendo. I'm not talking about cocktails in a Washington hospitality suite, I'm talking about the percolation among fans of The West Wing in the months since the cliffhanger "assassination attempt" season finale aired. Carefully, fans have pieced together bits from that final episode and have augmented them with bits of information from the entertainment press to try and sleuth out who may have been shot, how badly, and what it will mean.

Here's what we know:

We know that Bradley Whitford ("Josh"), in a puckish mood during an AOL chat, told curious chatters that there would be "one less cast member" this season. As he said this in the context of "who's been shot?" queries, it seems like a large hint - until one realizes Whitford didn't actually say that the exiting character would leave as a result of the assassination attempt. We know that Tim Matheson, who plays Vice President Hoynes, has been given a chance to star in his own series, Breaking News, this fall. Since there was no evidence in the finale that The Veep accompanied the President to the Newseum, however, it seems unlikely that he will be written out as the victim of an assassin's bullet - unless the program plans to throw us a real curveball.

Finally, we know that Jorja Fox, who played Zoey's bodyguard Gina Toscano, is also moving on to another series this year. She'll be seen on C.S.I.. She isn't the central character, however, and her many fans are crossing their fingers that the recurring character of Gina will continue to appear on The West WIng while enjoying success on C.S.I. Unfortunately, due to her Secret Service occupation on West WIng, the fact that she was prominent during the assassination
