"Who's been hit? Who's been hit?"

Fans of The West Wing anxiously await - finally - the resolution to last television season's biggest cliffhanger.

"Who's been hit? Who's been hit?"

They were the final words of the final episode of The West Wing last season, and since their utterance fans have wondered the same thing a dozen times.

After months of speculation and, for some, frame-by-frame analysis of the final moments of the finale, it's finally time to find out the answer.

It's not just (finally) finding out who may have been wounded or killed which has fans salivating. Word is also out that the two-hour premiere will include flashbacks to the period preceding Bartlet's election, and the making of the team which now staffs the West Wing. We will be treated glimpses of the behind-the-political-scenes making of President Bartlet -- and to the personal sacrifices that some of the staffers made in order to "serve at the pleasure of the President".

Patience in waiting for these plums has been called for. The Sydney Olympics are being carried on NBC, The West Wing's home network, which pushed season premieres back. On top of that, the US Presidential election and the prospect of televised live debates led to even more uncertainty about when Wing would premiere.

Currently, all systems seem 'go' for October 4th. A two-hour premiere may run all on that evening or be broken up over two nights, depending on real-life political activity. Check your local listings closely to make sure you've got the latest accurate information.

The cast and crew have a lot to smile about as they get back to work. The series took home a record nine Emmy awards for their work in their freshman season. The very public accolades are an excellent segue into their second season.
