Online Communities and Lists, Part II

Local Area Lists

There is a lot of value in joining an online list of Welsh learners in your area, if you can find one. I don't know of many, but a few have been listed in the BBC Catchphrase newsletter and site. A beginners' list for Texans interested in Welsh is available from Welsh_Texans-subscribe@topica.com . If you live in Cardiff, you might be interested in joining the message board TRAFOD-CAERDYDD-L. To subscribe, send an email to Majordomo@Cardiff.ac.uk with subscribe trafod-caerdydd-l in the body of the message.

I recommend visiting the website of the National Welsh American Foundation and clicking on Welsh Societies, to see if a Welsh society near you has an online community. Also, take a look at some of the other Welsh Language Yahoo! Groups to see if any are of interest to you. Or, start your own!

Learning Welsh can be a daunting task, and having a supportive community of like-minded students or scholars can make all the difference. I wish you all good luck in finding an online forum to practice your Welsh!
