Welsh Language CD-ROMs, Part II

In the Welsh Level 1 Personal Edition, available for $195 US, you'll find exercises, tests, and tutorials on Reading Comprehension, Listening, Dictation, and more. The software comes with a user guide and textbook. You can also study Welsh Level 1 through an online subscription for $19.95 per month. These are both available directly from the Rosetta Stone.

Teach Me! Welsh
This software package consists of 3 audio CDs and one CD-ROM, and focuses on the repetition method of language learning. If learning through repeated quizzing and exercises does not suit you, then Teach Me! Welsh may not be appropriate. However, many people find this method helpful, and it may be especially useful for those reviewing their skills or as an adjunct to other lessons.

The nice part about this set is that you can learn through the medium of English, French, German, or Spanish. Also, the audio CDs contain thousands of words and phrases spoken aloud for pronunciation practice, as well as stories for listening comprehension. The AutoLearn function allows the software to tailor the pace of learning depending on your progress, so you can learn at your own pace. There is even a users' group available on Yahoo! Groups.

The Teach Me! Welsh package is available from the Sain website for £24.99. From there, you can also download the course contents and view samples and screenshots.

I hope that this overview of the major Welsh CD-ROM packages provides a good starting point for those interested in learning Welsh on their computer at home. Even if you already have access to in-person lessons, language software such as the above can be a wonderful supplement to your learning.
